Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a candidate for your Job Search & Career Management Assistance Program?

q      Drawing from the Career Transitions Experts’ Job Search Assistance Guide, we have developed a Program for the do-it-yourself mindset individual, who is seeking a concise approach to the job search or career transition process.  These are individuals who want to take control of an often unnerving process…shorten their job search and greatly increase the odds of securing the ‘right’ next position.

In choosing our Program, we ask you to ask yourself:

¿      Are you seeking a concise and comprehensive program that will get you “into the game” quickly and effectively?

¿      Are you a do-it-yourself mindset individual, wise enough to know that having a Personal Coach available will accelerate the process?

¿      Would you prefer an Automated Resume GeneratorÔ, versus the burdensome task of resume writing?

¿      Do you want to take control of the unnerving job search and career management process and integrate the often conflicting goals of the short-term job search, with the long-term requirements of career development?

¿      Do you require a program that defines:

A specific course of action tailored to your individual needs.

A clear results assessment for any given activity.

A Customized Activity Planner designed to dramatically shorten your job search.

The “bottom line” is that if you are an individual who appreciates tough, honest “do’s and don’ts” assistance on the rather intricate subjects of career development and the job search process, then you should seriously consider this program.

Conversely, who is not primarily a candidate for this Program?

This Program provides a solid foundation of information for all job seekers, although the approaches discussed target primarily the North American job market.  In addition, the Program is not primarily intended as a stand-alone for the following categories of individuals:

q       At one end of the spectrum, those simply looking for a paycheck.  “Help Wanted” advertising is often sufficient to meet that search criteria.  This is not a "throw a resume together in 15 minutes" program.

q       At the other end of the spectrum, those desiring a radical career transition, as this often involves extensive personality and interests testing.

q       Seasoned, highly-credentialed professionals requiring an expansive Curriculum Vitae.

Should you fall into the above categories, to supplement this Program, you may request a referral to one of our affiliate companies specializing in these levels of service.

May I see a cross-section of questions handled by your staff?  I’d like to see if your Program relates to my needs?

q       The following reflects a brief sampling of the type questions frequently addressed by our industry experts.

Resume Writing:

“I’m a well-respected mid-level business manager in what I see as a dying industry.  How can I possibly present my past credentials to attract employment in a new field?...especially since I am in no position to step-back in pay!”

      Target Company Identification:

“I consider myself a top performer in my field.  In past job changes, the employer came to me.  That hasn’t happened this time around and my confidence is a bit shaken.  How can I make something happen?  Where do I start looking and who should I be talking to?”

Effective Use of the Internet:

“I’ve been told time and again how the Internet can assist me in my job search.  I get on-line though and I’m overwhelmed.  Is there a simple way to show me where to look and what to do when I get there?”

Securing Interviews:

“When I get the interview I ‘knock ‘em dead,’ but how do I get in front of the right people?”

Tough Interview Questions:

“I feel I’ve been underpaid the past few years of my career.  I know salary will be one of the first questions asked at my next interview.  How can I break this cycle and finally get ahead?”

Job Negotiations:

“I expect an offer by the end of the week.  The company and position look good.  I’ve been out of work and do plan to accept.  Is there any room for negotiating or will they withdraw the offer if I speak up?”

Time Constraints:

“I’ve been working in what is frankly a dead-end job.  Trouble is, I need the money and can’t just quit.  I’ve applied to a few positions in the newspaper classifieds and heard absolutely nothing…not even a “no!”  How can I possibly pursue new employment under these conditions?  Am I stuck here forever?  Help!”

Differentiation in the Marketplace:

“Unemployment in my field is high.  How can I possibly differentiate myself and appear unique, the “right guy” for employers, amid so much competition?  I know there are many folks with similar credentials to mine currently looking.”

q      “We do the work and you get the job.”  Wouldn’t it be great if such a service actually worked!  No one can find the ‘right’ next position for you.  The truth of the matter is that the job search and related career management is hard work and requires acting on proven principles and processes.  Recruiters or employment agencies may play a part in the overall plan, but are not an end unto themselves.  Drawing from the Career Transition Experts’ Job Search Assistance Guide©, our program defines and then applies the various resources available to you to maximize your success.  Unlike recruiters and employment agencies, who work for the employer, we solely address your interests in the job search or career transition.

Does your base program provide sufficient career coaching support, or should I also purchase an Extended Services package?

q       The base program provides sufficient career coaching support for most of our customers.  Each job seeker is, of course, an individual, with specific strengths, weaknesses, personal needs, monetary requirements and unique company and industry nuances that must be addressed to maximize success on the job search and career transition.  Although additional products and services are offered at a significant discount to our members, we suggest you initially start with the base package and extend your coaching services later, only if you find it necessary to do so.
